Point of care testing in emergency departments after mild traumatic brain injury
POCKET is a study of patients with minor traumatic brain injury who present to the Emergency Department. We aim to recruit patients as soon as possible after they arrive. Clinical information and blood sampling will be collected. Blood sampling will include use of a handheld i-STAT point-of-care analyser testing for brain injury biomarkers

Inclusion Criteria:
Adult patients (≥ 18 years of age)
Glasgow Coma Score >12
Presentation within 24 hours of head injury
Meet criteria to be assessed using NICE NG232 clinical decision support tool (CDST)
Patients with a prior history of TBI may still be included
Exclusion Criteria:
Participant without capacity and no available patient legal representative or professional consultee
Participant with capacity unwilling to provide informed consent
Unable to adequately understand written and verbal English
Prisoners currently in custody of HM Prison Service
In standard working hours; 9-5
Please contact the ED Research Team when eligible patients arrive in ED. The ED team will invite the patient to participate and do all the tasks to enroll them if they agree
